THE MONTESSORI SCHOOL

The Montessori School is a warm and stimulating atmosphere for children aged 2 ˝ through 6. The Montessori environment seeks to create an atmosphere in which the children have a wide variety of activities which are mentally challenging and sequentially designed. The child progresses naturally and logically through materials which are beautifully crafted and scaled to call into play clear and distinct perceptions. The materials start with a real experience and evolve into more abstract knowledge. Montessori is based on the theory that within each child there are periods when he/she is most sensitive to certain types of learning experiences. All Montessori equipment is designed to meet the needs of each period.

The Montessori philosophy is child centered. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to become a unique individual. Each child deserves to be encouraged to reach his/her full potential. Within this noncompetitive environment, children are encouraged to develop their mental and physical abilities. The child is the decision maker and the initiator of learning experience. A truly educated individual continues to learn long after the hours spent in a classroom because he/she is motivated by a natural curiosity and love of knowledge. We believe that the goal of early childhood education should be to cultivate the child’s natural abilities and desire to learn.

The Montessori School is not a babysitting service or playschool. The entire program is purposefully structured. For optimum results children need the full cycle of experiences, beginning in the early years and continuing through the materials partially described in the website. Children love to learn in an exciting and encouraging environment which instills an enthusiasm for learning and the skills for problem solving.
